Got a call from a guy staying at a hotel over in the South Bank neighborhood in Oxnard. His 2017 750i had one key, and the fob stopped communicating. Push-to-start just sat there. Dashboard showed "Key not found" and the iDrive popped BMW error code CC-ID 286, which is the system telling you it cannot detect any valid key.
He tried the emergency blade slot behind the steering column trim, held the fob against the steering column ring. Nothing. The CR2032 was fresh, so it was not a dead battery situation. The BDC2 module had dropped the key's authentication profile.
I drove out that evening with my bench setup. On the G12, you can work the BDC2 through the OBD port, but his needed a bench read of the BDC2 EEPROM to pull the ISN and sync a new key profile. I read the module data, generated the key with my VVDI tool, laser-cut the HU100R blade in the van, and wrote the transponder. Whole thing ran about 40 minutes because the BDC2 write-back has a verification cycle that takes its time.
Tested all four buttons, proximity unlock on both front handles, push-to-start. Clean.
He had already called the dealer. They wanted him to flatbed it over and wait until the next afternoon. He just shook his head and said he would have lost a full day of his trip. Instead he was driving to dinner 45 minutes after I showed up.
