I was in the Mountain Meadows area on a Tuesday afternoon when a call came in from a parent at a school nearby. Her 2007 BMW 7 Series fob had gone completely dark. No lock, no unlock, nothing. Nothing. The fob had lost sync with the security module. That happens on these when the battery drains fully rather than gradually. The module stops recognizing the key ID.
I connected to the OBD port, ran the re-synchronization sequence, and had her back to a recognized fob in about 25 minutes. Tested all four buttons, tested the start, walked the door handles. Everything came back clean.
She made her appointment. The dealer would have had her car sitting in a lot overnight, minimum, waiting for a tech slot. I was packed up and gone before the next pickup wave hit the parking lot.
