Guy in Moorpark, over in the Peach Hill neighborhood, had just flown back from a week-long work trip. Took the shuttle to short-term parking, walked up to his 2006 BMW 7 Series, and nothing. His key profile was still stored, slot one of four, no corruption. The problem was simpler than he expected.
The LX8020 comfort access fob, FCC ID LX8766S, has a rechargeable Panasonic VL2020 soldered onto the board. After a week sitting in an airport bag with no charge cycle, his cell had dropped below the threshold where the Hitag2 transponder could even respond to the CAS interrogation signal. I popped the fob open, desoldered the dead VL2020, tacked in a fresh one, and resynced the remote to the CAS2.
Walked every door, tested comfort access range at the handles, ran the start button twice. He stood there watching the dash the whole time, arms crossed, like he was waiting for it to quit again.
He drove home that same night. His car never left the spot he parked it in a week before.
