He had been out of town for a week on a work trip. Landed back, took the shuttle to short-term parking at the garage, walked up to his 2006 BMW 7 Series, and the fob did nothing. He drove home that same evening. The car never left the parking space he had pulled into seven days earlier. The dealer comparison came up on its own - he mentioned what they quoted over the phone. I just let it sit there. The math was obvious.
