1995 Buick Regal
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

1995 Buick Regal Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy in the Blackstock area of Oxnard. He had picked up a 1995 Buick Regal from a private seller and the deal came with exactly one key, worn down to where it was starting to be unreliable in the ignition. He wanted a spare before that original gave out completely, which was the right call.

He found me the same way a lot of people do, through the YouTube channel, watched a video of me doing a mechanical key job on a similar vintage GM car, and figured the process would look familiar.

When I pulled up, I could see right away the original key had been used hard for a long time. The tip was worn and the cuts were rounded enough that I wanted to verify the depth against the cylinder before I committed to copying it. Copying a worn key gives you a worn key. Instead I decoded the lock and cut fresh to the correct specifications.

Handed him two clean keys. Both turned smooth on the first try, ignition and door. He made a comment about how the ignition hadn't felt that easy in years, which usually means the original had been slightly off for a while and nobody noticed because they were used to fighting it.

The dealer conversation never really came up. He already knew from the video what the job looked like and what it was worth.
