A guy in Ventura, near the Ventura Botanical Gardens area, had just picked up a used 2000 Buick Regal. Came with one remote that mostly worked and one bare key that fit the ignition. The seller told him the fob was "a little flaky" but the car ran fine.
When I got there, the ABO0204T remote would lock the doors if he stood close, but unlock was dead unless he pressed it four or five times. I popped the back off right on his hood. The CR2032 contacts had a layer of green corrosion, and the battery itself was swollen just enough to notice. Cheap cell, probably sat in a blister pack at a gas station for years.
Fresh Energizer CR2032 in, contacts cleaned, and I reprogrammed the remote through the standard GM learn procedure on this body. Turn the ignition to RUN, hold lock and unlock on the fob together until the locks cycle, then press lock to confirm. Takes about two minutes. Both lock and unlock came back strong from 30 feet out.
Then I made him a second remote and programmed it the same way. Two working ABO0204T fobs, both tested on every button: lock, unlock, trunk, and panic. He kept picking up the second one like he couldn't believe he actually had a backup.
The dealer wanted him to come in, leave the car, and wait. I did it in his driveway for a fraction of that.
