2011 Buick Regal
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: What is a remote flip key and how does it work?

It's two things in one housing. The blade folds into the body of the fob when you're not using it, then flips out when you need to start the car or get into the door manually. The remote portion handles your wireless lock and unlock functions. The two sides of the key are somewhat independent in how they fail.

Q: What if my key broke off in the ignition?

That's an extraction job before it's a key job. We pull the broken piece out of the cylinder first, then inspect the wafers inside. A snapped blade can bend or dislodge the internal tumblers, which leaves the cylinder sticky or unable to turn even with a new key. We assess that on site and let you know what you're dealing with. If the cylinder took damage, we can handle that repair too, right there at the car.

Q: My 2011 Regal key fob works sometimes and not others. What's actually going on?

Intermittent behavior on this fob usually comes down to three things. First is the CR2032, which can test at acceptable voltage but still drop out under the current draw of the transmitter. A battery showing 2.9 volts on a meter might still cause skips. Second is the contact board inside the shell. On flip keys, every open-and-close cycles the internal components slightly, and over time the contact pads can develop micro-wear that only shows up at certain angles.

Q: Can I buy a replacement fob online and program it myself?

Not on this one. The 2011 Regal requires professional diagnostic equipment connected to the OBD port to enroll a new fob. There's no ignition-turn sequence or button combination that does it from the driver's seat. You can source a fob with the correct factory FCC ID, but it still has to be programmed before it works. If you already bought one, bring it with you.

2011 Buick Regal Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy near The Oaks Mall Area found me through YouTube. He'd been posting on a Buick forum asking for locksmith recommendations after his 2011 Regal started acting up, and someone in the thread linked my channel. He watched a video of me working through a GM key job, recognized the equipment, and saved my number before he even needed it.

When he called, the flip key was the issue. The blade still folded out, but the hinge had developed a little side-to-side wobble, and somewhere in that wobble the contacts weren't seating right. Some days the remote worked fine. Other days he'd be standing in the kennel parking lot near The Oaks, clicking lock twice and getting nothing.

I showed up, pulled the fob apart on the hood. The shell had a hairline crack at the pivot point, just enough to let everything shift under pressure. Swapped the shell, transferred the internals, programmed the replacement through the OBD port with the Autel, and ran every button. Lock, unlock, and all three of the remaining buttons, twice each. Then walked the range out to the kennel gate to confirm it wasn't just working up close.

He didn't need a new key from the dealer. He needed someone who could show up, diagnose it correctly, and do the work on site. That's the job.

Buick Regal Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How many buttons does the 2011 Buick Regal key have?▼

Five. The factory fob for this vehicle has five buttons. If you're replacing a lost key and have never seen the original, that's fine. We know exactly what this car takes and we verify every button function after programming. Nothing gets handed back until the whole fob checks out.
