2016 Buick Regal
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2016 Buick Regal Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

It was a Saturday morning at the community center lot near Casa Conejo, the kind of parking lot that's half empty except for one stressed-out guy standing next to a 2016 Buick Regal with his hands on his hips.

He told me upfront he'd already paid someone else. Another locksmith had come out, cut a key, attempted the programming, and walked away telling him the body control module was bad. The car would fire for about two seconds and then kill itself. He'd been stranded for two days convinced he was looking at a module replacement.

I've seen this before. The vehicle security system on these Regals has a timed security access window during the key registration process. If the tech doesn't hit that window correctly, or rushes through it, the module rejects the key and logs a fault. The car isn't broken. The procedure was.

I started by verifying the mechanical cut on the blade against the lock, then connected through the OBD port and cleared the faulted entry left over from the previous attempt. From there I got into the security access window properly, let the timer run, and completed the relearn. Clean registration, all five buttons confirmed working, and the car started and held idle without cutting out.

He watched the confirmation on my screen and didn't say anything for a second. Then he asked why the first guy didn't just do that.

Honest answer: the security access step takes patience. You have to wait it out. Some techs skip it or guess at the timing, and when it fails they point at hardware. The dealer comparison barely came up. He already knew he'd saved a significant amount compared to what a dealer all-keys-lost job would have run, especially without a tow.
