2013 Chevrolet Cruze
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2013 Chevrolet Cruze Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

He was at a taco spot in Old Town Simi when it happened. Set his backpack down in the booth, walked to the counter to order, turned around and it was gone. Keys, wallet, phone, everything. Borrowed the cashier's phone, called the police, then his girlfriend, then me.

His 2013 Chevrolet Cruze was sitting in the lot and he had no way into it, let alone a way to start it. His girlfriend called the dealer while he was dealing with the police report. They quoted her a few days out, said the car would need to be towed in, and flagged that the stolen key should be invalidated since it could still operate the locks. The combined estimate made her stomach drop.

I got there that evening. All-keys-lost is a different job than adding a spare. When you already have a working key and you're adding one, the car trusts the existing key and enrolls the new one alongside it. When all the keys are gone, I have to wipe the entire key memory so the stolen fob and blade are dead to the car, then register fresh keys from nothing. I cleared the old data through the OBD port, programmed two new flip keys, verified the transponder was talking to the immobilizer on both, and cut the blades to the car.

He drove home that night. The dealer's timeline was days away and required a tow. His stolen key can still physically slide into the door lock cylinder, but it won't start the car. That part is handled.

The dealer comparison came up exactly once, when he called his girlfriend back to tell her he was already home.
