2019 Chevrolet Cruze
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2019 Chevrolet Cruze Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Sea Air, a woman flagged me down in her apartment carport after texting me for about twenty minutes. She had the two halves of her only key in her hand and a car she couldn't get into.

The blade had snapped clean off at the hinge point. Half was still inside the door lock cylinder, and the flip housing was cracked open in her palm. She'd been nursing the wobble in that hinge for months, always meaning to get a spare cut, and one afternoon of a stuck door lock made the decision for her.

First thing was getting the broken blade fragment out of the cylinder. I decoded the lock while I was in there, which gave me the cut data I needed. The transponder chip inside the cracked housing was untouched, still seated perfectly. That mattered because it meant I wasn't looking at an all-keys-lost job with the full timed security relearn cycle. I transferred the chip into a new flip housing, cut two replacement blades to match the cylinder, and had her test both keys at the door and at the ignition.

She stood there looking at the two working keys like she was deciding which one to trust more. I told her to put one somewhere she'd never carry it, a drawer, a bag she doesn't take out.

She asked about the dealer on the way out, almost as an afterthought. I told her what they quoted for a single key. She did the math on her own.
