Got a call from a guy near Ventura Music Hall who runs a catering van, a 2001 GMC Savana 2500. He had one key left, and it was so worn down the cuts barely grabbed the wafers anymore. He had been jiggling it for weeks, and that morning it finally stopped turning the cylinder at all.

First key slid into the ignition and turned clean. No jiggling, no forcing. The Passlock sensor inside the cylinder picked up the resistance on the first try and the security light cycled off like it should. Engine fired right up.

He just sat there for a second with his hands on the wheel, like he forgot what a normal start felt like.

I handed him the spare and told him to keep it somewhere that isn't the same pocket as the other one. Two worn keys at the same time is a bad day. He drove off to his event with about 20 minutes to spare.
