2007 GMC Savana
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How fast can you get to Las Positas or the surrounding Santa Barbara area?

Depends on where I am when you call and what else is on the schedule. I give you an honest arrival window on the phone. Because I am already mobile and working the area, response times are typically much better than scheduling through a dealer and waiting for an open service slot. Call and I will tell you exactly where things stand.

Q: Can I get a replacement remote made today?

Usually yes. I carry remotes and programming equipment for the 2007 Savana in my service vehicle. If I have the right remote in stock and the schedule lines up, I can be at your location in Santa Barbara the same day you call, program the remote on-site, and have it tested before I leave. The actual programming window on these is short.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2007 Savana. Can I program it myself?

Not on this system. The 2007 Savana remote requires OBD-based programming with the right equipment. There is no button sequence or ignition cycling trick that enrolls a new remote on this generation of GM full-size vans. The fob you bought is just hardware until it gets programmed. If you already have it in hand, bring the van and the fob to me and I can program it on-site.

Q: My Savana starts fine but the remote stopped locking and unlocking. What should I check before calling?

Start with the CR2032. That is the battery this fob uses, and a low cell is the most common reason a remote loses range or stops responding entirely while the van itself runs normally. Swap it with a fresh one, make sure it seats flat against both contacts inside the fob, and retest at close range first. If a new battery does not fix it, check whether the van responds to a different remote if you have one.

2007 GMC Savana Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A property manager over in Las Positas runs a townhouse complex and uses a 2007 GMC Savana as her daily vehicle between properties. She needed one spare for herself and two for her maintenance crew.

The dealer gave her a per-key quote, times three. The math did not work, and neither did the idea of leaving the van at a dealership for half a day when she is the person everyone calls when something goes sideways on the property.

She called me late one afternoon. I pulled up to the complex while she was already fielding tenant calls.

The Savana uses OBD-based programming for the remotes on this generation. I brought three fresh remotes matching the factory fob and ran the programming sequence through the port. Before going into a multi-key session like this, I back up any module data I can pull first. It takes an extra few minutes but gives me a safety net if anything interrupts the third or fourth key learn cycle. Each remote got tested individually after programming: lock, unlock, and the remaining buttons, one at a time, before I handed anything over.

She handled two tenant issues while I worked. The van never left the property. By the time she got off her second call, all three remotes were programmed, tested, and labeled for her team.

The dealer quote for the same job was a significant number. What she paid me was a fraction of that. She found out about the difference when she called around, and that is what made her reach out.

How long does a 2007 GMC Savana key replacement take?▼

For a remote replacement where you already have a working key, the programming itself moves quickly once I am at the van. OBD-based programming on this generation of GM full-size vans is well-established and does not require the long timed relearn cycles you see on some other systems. All-keys-lost is a different situation. When there are zero working keys in the system, the process takes longer because the security system has to be reset before new keys can be enrolled.
