He'd been gone four days for work, cross-country, and the QX60 was sitting in the long-term lot at the airport. He clicked the fob walking toward it and nothing happened. Clicked again. Nothing. He figured the fob was acting up and tried the door handle anyway. Locked. He was standing between two rows of cars with a roller bag and a territory meeting in Oxnard in under three hours.
He called the Infiniti dealer first. Earliest availability: Friday. It was Tuesday afternoon.
He found me through a search and called. I was already working the Channel Islands Harbor area of Oxnard, so the drive wasn't bad. When I got to the lot, he was sitting on his suitcase next to the passenger side, which I respected.
First thing I did was hand him a fresh CR2032 and show him how to access the battery compartment in the fob. His original battery tested nearly flat. We swapped it, and the fob woke up immediately. But the car still wasn't responding to the door handles, which told me there was a residual communication fault logged from the period the fob had been running on a dying battery.
I pulled up the vehicle through the OBD port with my diagnostic tool and confirmed the key was still paired correctly. Cleared the stored fault, walked all four doors, tested the touch-unlock on both front handles, ran the other buttons, and verified the push-button start. Everything came back clean.
He made his meeting. The dealer route would have meant a tow, a three-day wait, and spending a lot more. He needed someone who could show up same day, and that's the whole point of what I do.
