2024 Infiniti QX60
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: What exactly is a smart key and how does the 2024 QX60 use it?

Your 2024 QX60 uses a proximity-style intelligent key that talks to the vehicle continuously while it is in range. When you approach, the vehicle senses the fob and prepares the door handles. When you press start, the system checks that a recognized key is inside the cabin before allowing the engine to run. The fob also has four buttons for remote functions. The key itself contains a programmed transponder that is matched specifically to your vehicle.

Q: Why does the Infiniti dealer take so long with key orders instead of just programming one on the spot?

Because the intelligent key for your QX60 is not a generic blank they keep in a drawer. The dealer orders a fob tied to your VIN from a warehouse, waits for delivery, then schedules a separate programming appointment once it arrives. Each of those steps gets billed separately: the fob itself, any cutting fee, and programming labor. Some owners have reported being quoted a diagnostics charge before any actual work even begins. We skip all of that.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2024 QX60. Can I program it myself?

No. The 2022-and-up QX60 does not have a consumer self-programming sequence for smart keys. There is no button combination, no ignition cycling trick, nothing like that. Enrolling a new fob requires a professional scan tool that can communicate with the vehicle security system and body control module, and on this generation the process often involves a live connection to an authorization server during programming. If you already bought the fob, that is fine, bring it along.

Q: My QX60 shows a key warning on the dash but the fob battery is fresh. What is going on?

A few things can cause this even with a good battery. The most common one is the fob antenna inside the cabin losing its connection to the key, usually because something is creating interference near the start button area, like a phone, a wireless charger, or even a metal key ring sitting too close to the fob. Move those away from the fob and retry. If the warning clears, that was it.

2024 Infiniti QX60 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Sunday morning in Downtown Oxnard, right outside a yoga studio on a street that was still half-asleep. A studio owner came out after teaching her first class of the day, walked up to her 2024 Infiniti QX60, and nothing happened. No door handle response, no push-to-start, just a silent car sitting in the lot. The Infiniti dealer was closed until Monday. Her second class was starting in under two hours.

She found my number and I picked up.

I pulled into that lot about forty minutes later. First thing I did was walk her through pressing the fob directly against the start button, which is the built-in fallback when the battery goes out. The car responded just enough to confirm the fob was still partially alive but not enough to actually run through the full key check. The CR2032 was reading nearly flat on my meter.

I swapped the battery on the spot. Still not right. The fob was re-pairing inconsistently, which told me the key had been sitting with a dead battery long enough that it needed to be re-enrolled, not just refreshed. I connected through the OBD port, ran the re-registration sequence for the existing fob, and let the system finish its handshake with the vehicle security system and body control module. Tested all four buttons, tested push-to-start, walked the door handles.

It took about 45 minutes total. She made it back inside before her next class started. The dealer, on a Tuesday after ordering and waiting, would have taken most of her week.

Infiniti QX60 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How long does the Infiniti dealer take for a key replacement on a 2024 QX60?▼

Longer than you want to be without your car. Infiniti dealers typically have to order the intelligent key by VIN from a central distribution point. That step alone can take several business days, and owners on forums report being told two to three days and then having to follow up when nothing arrives. Once the key is in, the dealer still needs to schedule shop time for programming.
