Got a call from a physical therapist over in the Sinaloa Lake area. She had a 1998 Legacy sitting in her driveway with a key that was falling apart. The plastic loop at the top of the shell had snapped clean off, and the rubber over the four buttons was worn so thin you could almost see the circuit board through it. Opened the cracked housing on her porch table, moved the 4D62 chip and the NHVWB1U711 circuit board into a fresh shell, seated a new CR2025, and cut a blade to match. Tested all four buttons from the end of the driveway and confirmed the immobilizer handshake on start.
The whole thing took about twenty minutes. She stood there clicking the lock button over and over, watching the lights flash, like she was making sure it was real.
She kept her original chip, her original electronics, and paid a fraction of what the dealer wanted for a part she never needed.
