Got a call from a guy at The Collection at RiverPark in Oxnard. His 2016 Legacy Limited was sitting in the parking lot near the movie theater, locked out and dead to the world. Another locksmith had already tried an all-keys-lost job on it, but the car battery sagged during the programming sequence and the immobilizer threw a security fault. That locksmith packed up and left.
When I got there, the push button just blinked green. No crank. The BIU had locked into a fault state from the power drop mid-handshake. That is one of those things that makes people think the whole module is bricked.
I clamped my jump pack directly to the battery terminals to hold steady voltage, then connected my IM608 through the OBD port. Cleared the stored fault codes from the BIU first, which let the module come back to a clean state. From there, the all-keys-lost procedure on the HYQ14AHC went through on the first attempt. Programmed the proximity functions, cut the emergency B110 insert blade, tested every button, walked the doors, and checked push-to-start from both front seats.
About an hour and a half, start to finish. He had been quoted a flatbed tow to the dealer and a multi-day wait. I handed him a working smart key in that same parking lot for a fraction of what they wanted.
