Saturday night near Montecito Village Grocery, a couple came out of dinner and their 2020 Legacy just sat there. Push the start button, nothing. Dash shows "No Key Detected," and neither of them knew you can hold the dead fob right up against the start button to get an emergency start.

Popped their HYQ14AHK open on the hood. The CR2032 was original, two years old, voltage completely tanked. Swapped it, paired the fob back to the car with my diagnostic setup through the OBD port, and tested everything: driver handle touch unlock, passenger handle, trunk release, lock, unlock, and push-button start from multiple positions around the car.
Range came back immediately. Car started first press.
The whole thing was that small. But if they had waited for the dealer, they would have been looking at Monday at the earliest, plus a tow, plus whatever the service writer decided to quote. They drove home Saturday night. When the van is stocked and the phone rings at 9pm, it plays out the same as a Tuesday morning.
