2015 Subaru Legacy Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy near Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard called me one morning, pretty calm about it. His 2015 Subaru Legacy was sitting at the auto parts store with half a key blade stuck in the ignition. He had been turning it and the side-milled B110 blade just snapped. Half in the cylinder, half in his hand.
He had one of the base trim setups: mechanical transponder key plus a separate HYQ14AHC remote fob clipped to his visor. The fob was fine. The problem was getting that broken piece out without chewing up the wafers inside the cylinder.
I used my HO01 Lishi to fish the broken bit out clean. No damage to the lock internals. Once it was out, I decoded the wafer positions right there and cut a fresh B110 blank from the readings. Then I connected to the OBD port and registered the new G-chip transponder. The Subaru immobilizer on these sixth-gen Legacys runs Texas Crypto 128-bit, and it accepted the key in one registration cycle. No drama.
Whole thing, extraction to test drive, was under an hour. He kept turning the broken half over in his fingers like he was trying to figure out where the metal gave up.
The separate remote fob never lost its pairing. He clipped it back on the visor and drove off. Dealer would have meant a tow and a wait measured in days, not minutes.
