2006 Subaru Legacy Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from the Gonzales Road commercial area in Oxnard, right near that stretch with all the plazas and the produce stands. A woman with a 2006 Subaru Legacy had one key left, and the plastic bow was cracked almost clean through. She'd been babying it for weeks, holding it together with electrical tape.

She told me she called the Subaru dealer and they quoted her an appointment a week out. They also told her the immobilizer module might need to be sent to Subaru of America for reprogramming, which is something dealers sometimes say on older all-keys-lost jobs, but hers wasn't all-keys-lost. I pulled up, connected through the OBD-II port, and used a 4D-62 chip cloned to match her immobilizer. Cut the new SUB-120 blank on my mobile machine, programmed the transponder, and had her test it. Engine fired on the first turn. Security light on the dash went solid and then off, exactly how it should behave when the immobilizer accepts the chip.

The cracked original still worked too, so now she had a proper spare. She peeled off the electrical tape and tossed it in the cupholder like it offended her. Whole thing took maybe 15 minutes of on-car time.
