Got a text from a guy near the Del Sol shopping area in Oxnard. His 2005 Subaru Legacy was sitting in a dirt pullout off a fire road where he had been mountain biking. He lost his only key somewhere on the trail. No spare. No dealer anywhere close that could help without a tow, and no flatbed was getting into that spot easily anyway.

I loaded up everything for his Legacy: DAT17 blank, 4D-62 transponder chip, Lishi DAT17 decoder, portable key cutter, and my ACDP programmer to read and back up the immobilizer data from the ECU before writing anything new. All-keys-lost on these means pulling the stored key data, cloning or registering a fresh 4D-62, then cutting the blade to the lock.
Decoded his driver door cylinder right there on the dirt. Cut the key on the tailgate of my van. Programmed the transponder chip, seated it in the key head, and handed it to him.
He turned the ignition and the security light on the cluster did its normal quick flash and went out. Engine caught on the first crank. He just stood there for a second looking at the key like he did not believe it.
The whole job happened in a dirt lot. No tow, no waiting room, no appointment two weeks out.
