1999 Subaru Legacy Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy staying at a rental in Simi Valley, over in the Texas Tract neighborhood. He had one key for his 1999 Legacy, and it just stopped turning the engine over. Remote still locked and unlocked the doors fine. Dash security light would blink and the starter would crank but never catch. Classic immobilizer rejection.
He had already called a dealer. They told him to tow it in, earliest opening was the next afternoon, and the whole thing would run a full day once it got there. He found me online that evening.
I drove out and met him in the driveway. Pulled the VIN from the door jamb, confirmed his key type. The 1999 Legacy uses a 4D60 transponder chip in the key head, and his was reading intermittently. Hairline crack in the plastic right near the chip. Probably got sat on or flexed one too many times.
Cut a new NSN14 blade in the van, cloned the 4D60 chip with my VVDI Key Tool through OBD, and paired the existing NHVWB1U711 remote to the new key housing. Tested all four buttons, cycled the ignition three times, let the security light settle.
He stood there watching the engine turn over and just quietly said "huh." That was it. No tow, no waiting room, no next afternoon. Done on site for a fraction of what they wanted.
