2019 Subaru Legacy Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A yoga instructor at a strip mall studio off Collins Drive corridor in Moorpark had her stuff together before I even showed up. She texted me the VIN while I was finishing my last job. With that I already knew her trim, the HYQ14AHK smart key, and the 4-button layout. I had the 88835-FL03B blank prepped in the van before I pulled into the lot.

She met me at the door holding her working fob and her registration. No digging through the glove box, no hunting for paperwork. That never happens.

Because she had a functioning key, I went the add-a-key route through the OBD port on her Legacy's BIU module. Cloned the G-chip transponder data onto the new emergency insert, then registered the proximity fob to the smart-key ECU. Tested all four buttons, checked passive unlock on both front handles, confirmed push-to-start. Then I walked the perimeter with the spare in my pocket to make sure the car saw it from every door.

Whole thing, parking to handing her a tested second key, was about 18 minutes. She looked at me like I forgot a step.

She didn't need the dealer. Subaru dealerships around here typically quote a week-plus wait for an appointment and charge a good chunk more for the same result, without the convenience of it happening in a parking lot.
