Cleaned the contacts, seated a fresh CR1632 the right way, and then went through every button. Lock, unlock, and the remaining two, one at a time. Then walked both door handles, checked that the passive entry was responding, and confirmed the car recognized the fob on startup. Solid across the board.

He asked me afterward what a dealer would have charged to do the same job. I told him they probably would have started by selling him a new fob before anyone looked at the contacts. He just nodded like that wasn't a surprise.
