2009 Toyota Camry Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman in Downtown Oxnard flagged me down while I was finishing another job near the laundromat on Oxnard Boulevard. Her 2009 Camry had a smart key a different locksmith had made about ten days earlier. Mornings it started fine. By evening the push-button start would go dark on her, no response, just a key-not-detected warning on the dash. She had convinced herself the car had a wiring problem somewhere.

I pulled the fob apart on the hood while she watched. The CR1632 inside looked original, dull around the edges, slightly corroded at the contact ring. That alone can cause intermittent detection on these. But I also scanned the key's transponder chip against what this car's immobilizer expects. The chip generation was wrong. Not catastrophically wrong, just one generation off. Close enough to pass the initial registration, not close enough to survive Toyota's deeper verification that runs over repeated drive cycles. That is the failure pattern she was describing exactly.

I programmed a new fob with the correct chip matched to the factory fob ID, seated a fresh CR1632 with the contacts clean and flat, and walked every function: door handle touch unlock on both sides, the lock and unlock buttons, the push-button start. Everything held.

She asked why the first guy didn't catch it. Honest answer: some shops program fast and move on. They never see the comebacks because the customer doesn't know who to blame when it fails a week later. I matched the chip generation correctly, and the fob has been solid since. That is the whole difference.
