2020 Chevrolet Trax Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
He was at the taco shop off Coast Village Road, just outside Birnam Wood, when his backpack got lifted. Keys, wallet, phone, gone while he was at the counter.
He borrowed the cashier's phone. Called the police. Then called his girlfriend. She called me.
By the time I got there that evening, his 2020 Trax had been sitting in the lot for a few hours with zero working keys. His girlfriend had already called the dealer. They wanted the car towed in, quoted a multi-day turnaround while they ordered the key through VIN, and combined with a rekey recommendation, the estimate was steep enough that she wrote it down just to have proof.
All-keys-lost is a different job than cutting a spare. When a working key exists, adding a second one is quick because the car already trusts an enrolled key and just adds the new code to the list. AKL means I wipe the entire key memory first, start fresh, and register new keys from zero. The stolen key was gone from the system before I left the lot. The body control module no longer recognized it. If whoever took the backpack ever walked up to that Trax with the original fob, the doors might open, but the engine would not.
I programmed two new fobs, cut the emergency blades, walked every button on both, and confirmed the push-button start was seeing both keys before I packed up.
He drove home that night. The police called back while I was finishing the second fob. He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted, skipped the tow, and didn't spend a week without a car while a key got ordered.
The stolen key is now just a piece of plastic.
