2022 Chevrolet Trax
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2022 Chevrolet Trax Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Hot Springs is a quiet stretch, which made the parking area near the water feel even more empty than it was when I pulled up. The guy had already been there an hour, retracing every step from the trail to the lot, checking under the car twice. His 2022 Trax wasn't going anywhere without me.

He had come out solo that morning with one key, which is how a lot of these go. Used lot, single key handed over at signing, and nobody thinks about it until that key is sitting at the bottom of a creek somewhere in Montecito.

Getting in wasn't the hard part. I worked the door open without a scratch and decoded the blade from the lock itself, which gave me the exact cut to match. That part goes fast. The longer part was the all-keys-lost sequence through the OBD port - clearing the old key memory, running the security relearn, and getting a freshly programmed fob paired and recognized by the immobilizer. GM's system on this platform has a timed access cycle built into that process, so you can't rush it. You just work through it methodically.

First turn, the Trax started clean. Then I cut him a second key on the spot so he wasn't leaving the lot in the same situation he arrived in.

He asked, almost as an afterthought, what the dealer would have quoted. I told him they'd likely need to tow it in, order by VIN, and schedule him out. He nodded and didn't ask anything else. Some answers land on their own.
