2021 Chevrolet Trax Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A resident up in Upper Village called me on a Tuesday afternoon. She had two fobs for her 2021 Trax and both had stopped working within a few days of each other.
She figured it was a coincidence and ordered two replacement batteries online. Swapped them in, same problem. Neither fob would lock or unlock the doors, and she was getting a key-not-detected warning when she sat in the driver's seat.
She had already called the dealer. They told her to bring it in, said it could be a fob issue or something deeper, and quoted her a number that made her pause. They also told her the earliest appointment was four days out.
I was parked in front of her place within the hour.
First thing I did was open both fobs on the tailgate of my van. The batteries she had installed were correct, but one was seated crooked and the contact tab in that housing had a slight outward bow, not making solid contact. The second fob had a cracked housing at the battery compartment, letting the cell shift around during use.
I seated the first battery correctly and brought the contact tab back in. The second fob needed a housing swap, which I had in stock. Once both fobs were solid, I tested every button on both, walked all four doors, and confirmed the vehicle was responding cleanly.
Neither fob needed programming. The car hadn't forgotten them. They just weren't making reliable contact with the batteries.
She got her two working fobs back the same afternoon, for a fraction of what the dealer visit would have cost, and without burning four days waiting for an appointment.
