Down at Ventura Harbor Village, a trade school student was stranded at his girlfriend's place with a dead 2003 Durango. Another locksmith had already tried and failed on it. The guy attempted to run a FOBIK procedure on a truck that doesn't use FOBIKs. Forced the wrong protocol, left a pile of fault codes in the SKIM module, charged for the attempt, and told the kid to tow it to the dealer. Now the truck wouldn't recognize any key at all. The security lamp just sat there, solid, and the engine cranked without catching.

I pulled up to the harbor, plugged my Autel IM608 into the OBD-II port, and saw the mess right away. The SKIM was stuck in a fault state from the botched procedure, codes stacked up. I cleared the DTCs, verified the module was back to baseline, and ran a proper Sentry Key learning sequence for the second-gen Durango platform. His key is a Y160-PT with a PCF7936 ID 46 chip. Nothing fancy. No buttons, no remote integration. Just a transponder key that talks to the SKIM through the antenna ring around the ignition cylinder.
I showed him the confirmation screen so he could see the key was fully learned. Truck started clean on the first turn.
The dealer quoted him a tow plus a multi-day wait just to undo what the other locksmith broke. I did it at the harbor in about 25 minutes. Didn't charge extra for the cleanup because cleaning up the mess is part of doing the job right.
