2021 Dodge Durango
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How fast can you get to my location near South Winds in Oxnard?

I'll give you an honest arrival window when you call, based on where I am and what's already on the schedule. I'm mobile, so I'm coming to you, not the other way around. For context, area dealers are often booking Durango key appointments days out, and some owners report the car sitting after drop-off before anyone touches it.

Q: Can I get a key made today?

In most cases, yes. I stock fob housings, blades, and CR2032 cells for the 2021 Durango and carry the programming equipment in the service vehicle. If you're near South Winds or anywhere in Oxnard and the schedule has a spot, same-day is realistic. Call first so I can confirm I have your specific fob configuration in stock and we can lock in a time that works. No appointment desk, no drop-off window, no waiting room.

Q: My 2021 Durango starts fine but the door handles stopped unlocking as I walk up. Is the fob bad?

Not necessarily. This is actually a known behavior on these fobs when the CR2032 is getting weak. The passive entry system that reads the fob through the door handle antennas draws more signal than the interior start antenna does, so a fob that's low on battery can still fire the engine but fail the walk-up unlock. Start with the battery.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can I program it myself to my 2021 Durango?

No. The 2021 Durango does not have an onboard self-programming sequence for smart fobs. Enrolling a new fob requires a diagnostic tool connected to the OBD port to write the new key into the vehicle's security system. There's no ignition-turn trick or button sequence that works here. If you already bought a fob, that's fine, bring it. As long as it carries the correct factory FCC ID for your vehicle, I can program it on site.

2021 Dodge Durango Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Over near South Winds in Oxnard, I got a call from a mom juggling two boys in a karate class and a 2021 Durango with a fob shell that was coming apart at the seam. She wasn't stranded. She was just watching it get worse every day and knew a crack in the right spot would eventually take the battery contact with it.

The dealer told her to drop the car off for a few hours. She had one vehicle, two kids, and a schedule that didn't have a few hours in it anywhere.

I pulled into the karate studio lot around 4:30. She had maybe 45 minutes before class let out. I swapped the electronics from her cracking shell into a fresh housing, transferred the blade, seated a new CR2032, and connected through the OBD port to get the replacement registered to the vehicle. Walked every button, checked passive entry on both front handles, and confirmed the start function.

The whole thing was done before anyone came out in a gi. She saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted, and she never had to leave the parking lot or arrange a ride for anyone.

The boys got in and asked for chicken nuggets. As far as they knew, nothing happened.

How long does a 2021 Dodge Durango key replacement take?▼

For a standard spare or replacement where you still have a working key, plan on roughly 20 to 35 minutes once I'm at your vehicle. Most of that time is the programming sequence through the OBD port, not the cutting. The actual key enrollment goes fast once the tool is connected and the vehicle is talking. All-keys-lost is a different job.
