2014 Dodge Durango
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2014 Dodge Durango Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was out in Sea Air on a Tuesday when a call came in from a guy in the same neighborhood. He had a 2014 Dodge Durango and one key between him and being stranded.

His wife had taken the spare to her office months ago and it never made it back to the house. He wasn't locked out, just proactive, and he wanted a second fob programmed before the first one finally gave out.

When I pulled up, he was in the driveway and his original fob was working fine. That made it easy. No reset needed, just an add-a-spare.

I confirmed the fob details against the factory FCC ID printed on the back of his original, matched it to the blank I had with me, and got to work. Cut the emergency insert blade to match his door lock, then connected to the OBD port and walked through the security access sequence on my programmer. The vehicle accepted the new fob on the first attempt.

I handed it to him and we walked the whole thing together. Lock button, unlock button, the remaining buttons, and then the start sequence from about thirty feet back. Solid response every time. He tried it from the street just to check range, and it didn't flinch.

He asked how long the programming would have taken at the dealer. I told him to figure at least a day, probably two, because they usually need to order the fob if they don't have it on a shelf. He looked at his watch. We were done in under forty minutes, on his driveway, and he was way better off than if he'd waited until he was actually stuck.

That's the job most of the time. Not dramatic. Just done.
