Got a call from a guy stuck down at Fisherman's Wharf at the Harbor in Oxnard. He was in town from out of state, oil field consultant, flew in early that Monday morning for a week of meetings. His 2020 Dodge Durango was sitting in the lot and the fob was completely dead. Doors locked, push-to-start wouldn't wake up, and he had never once used the emergency blade hidden inside the fob housing.
He called the nearest Dodge dealer. Earliest opening was Thursday. Three days of missed meetings over a dead battery in a key fob. He almost called a tow company, then found me.
I got to the harbor in under an hour. Pulled the emergency blade from his M3N-40821302 fob, popped the driver door through the blade slot in the handle, and had him hold the dead fob against the start button to get the ignition up on the backup RFID loop. Then I connected my IM608 through the OBD port, confirmed both his fobs were still learned to the RF hub, and checked for stored codes. One fault for key signal loss, nothing deeper. Swapped the CR2032 and cleared the code.
He sat in the driver seat, hit every button twice, watched the EVIC come back clean, and just nodded. Made his first meeting that morning with time to spare. The whole thing took less time than he spent on hold with the dealer.
