Got a call around 10 PM from a long-haul trucker stuck near Oxnard State Beach Park. His 2015 Dodge Durango would not restart after a fuel stop. He had a pickup scheduled first thing in the morning, two hours north, and the schedule does not bend in that line of work.
He had already tried the backup method, holding the dead fob against the start button. Nothing. The EVIC just kept cycling "No Fob Detected."
I drove out and met him in the lot. Opened the fob on the hood under a headlamp. The CR2032 was not the problem. The board itself, the 7812A-40821302 circuit, had a hairline crack near the battery contact. The Hitag AES transponder data was still readable, though. I used my programmer to pull the chip data from the dead fob, cloned it into a fresh M3N-40821302 blank, cut the emergency blade to CY24 specs, and registered the new fob to his RF hub module through the OBD port.
Tested passive entry on both front handles, ran lock, unlock, hatch release, remote start, panic. Checked range from 30 feet out. Everything responded clean.
He was back on the highway in about 45 minutes. The whole time he kept looking at the dash like it was going to quit on him again. It didn't.
The dealer near him wasn't taking same-day appointments anyway. Even if they were, he would have waited days and paid a good chunk more.
