Surfers Point is one of those spots where people park and don't think twice about anything until something goes wrong. A guy had his 2005 Dodge Durango sitting in the lot near the beachside path. He'd been out on the water for a couple hours, came back, and the remote head key just wasn't responding. Doors wouldn't unlock from the fob. He was standing there in a wetsuit clicking the thing like it owed him money.

The CR2032 inside the combined key fob housing was nearly dead. That alone was killing the remote functions. We swapped it, tested all three buttons, and the lock and unlock came right back. But the truck had also been sitting with an intermittently weak battery for a while, and the remote had lost its sync during a prior battery swap on the vehicle side.
I re-synced the remote to the vehicle using the onboard procedure, confirmed the immobilizer was reading the key correctly on ignition, and did a full button test before I packed up. He had a working key again before he'd even finished rinsing his board off.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a replacement remote head key plus a programming fee as two separate line items. He'd been putting it off because of the number. He paid a fraction of that, standing on the beach, in about twenty minutes.
