2005 Dodge Durango Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy out in the Ventura Keys area, near the marina side. He had a 2005 Dodge Durango sitting in his driveway with zero working keys. His only remote head key had gone through the wash inside a pair of cargo shorts. The buttons quit, and then a couple days later the truck stopped recognizing the transponder entirely. Solid SKIM light on the dash, no crank, nothing.
Two of his neighbors told him it was a dealer tow situation. He called the Dodge dealer and they quoted him a wait of five to seven business days just for the key to come in, plus the tow.
I drove out that evening. The 2005 Durango uses the SKIM module, part number 56049838AC, mounted on the steering column. For an all-keys-lost job on this system, I pulled the SKIM data with my IM608 through the OBD-II port, wiped the old key registration, and programmed a new OHT692427AA remote head key with a fresh PCF7941 chip. Cut the blade on my mobile machine to the factory depths right there on his driveway.
Truck fired up. He clicked all three buttons, lock, unlock, panic, tested each one from different spots around the vehicle.
He kept looking at the ignition like it owed him an apology. The whole thing took about 25 minutes. He saved a good chunk over the dealer route and never had to leave his own street.
