Got a call from someone out at Rincon Beach Park in Ventura. She was visiting for the day, and somewhere between the parking area and the sand, her only key for the 2009 Flex just vanished. Pockets, bag, under the seats, retraced her steps twice. Gone.

With zero keys, it's a diagnostic port job. I connected through OBD-II, accessed the PATS module, wiped the old key ID, and registered the new 164-R8070 blank with a fresh 4D63 80-bit chip. Cut the blade on the HPC CodeMax in the van using the code pulled from the door lock.
The part that took the longest was her watching me cut the key and asking how the transponder actually talks to the car. I walked her through it while the PATS security timer counted down. Whole job, maybe 25 minutes from the time I parked.
She had already called a Ford dealer before reaching me. They told her tow it in, earliest opening was two days out. She was on a day trip. Two days was not going to work. I had her driving home that same afternoon for a fraction of what they quoted.
