A guy near the Oxnard Auto Center had been fighting his 2012 Ford Flex ignition for weeks. Wiggling the key, pressing it in hard, sometimes just sitting there waiting before it would turn. The dealer told him he needed a new HU101 ignition cylinder, a new key, and reprogramming. He was about to book it when a friend said call a locksmith.
I drove out and looked at the cylinder. The wafers inside were worn down, which is the number one failure on this HU101 lock. Ford uses it across the Flex, Explorer, Fusion, Escape, and more. The wafers get sloppy, the key binds, and eventually you think the whole assembly is shot. Dealers love that assumption.
I used my ACDP to back up the PATS immobilizer data off the instrument cluster, decoded the existing lock, and swapped only the worn wafers. Then I cut a fresh key to the repaired cylinder. His separate remote, the OUC6000022 five-button, paired right back up with no issues.
Before I packed up, I showed him the old wafers side by side with the new ones so he could see the wear pattern. That is usually when they get it.
His ignition turns clean now. No wiggling, no waiting, no replacing parts that were still good. And the whole thing cost him a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
