A mom doing school pickup near Mandalay Village Marketplace in Oxnard called me on a Wednesday. Her 2018 Ford Flex, push-to-start, one smart key, and that key had gone through the washing machine. I tested all five buttons, checked that the Intelligent Access door handles were picking up the fob from both sides, and confirmed push-button start cycled clean with no wrench light on the dash.
I told her to toss the washed fob in a bag of rice and give it a few days. Sometimes the board dries out and still holds. But not to count on it.
She pulled out of that lot with both kids strapped in and made her next stop on time. The dealer would have meant a tow, a loaner she didn't have time to arrange, and days of waiting for a job that took me less than an hour on the spot.
