Got a call from a guy stuck near Point Mugu State Park in Oxnard. Road trip, gas station, and his key snapped clean in the ignition of his 2006 Ford Focus. His Focus runs the 164-R7040 remote-head key with the 4D63 80-bit transponder, so I needed the chip programmed through PATS, not just a cut.
One security cycle on the diagnostic port. THEFT light on the dash went solid, then off. Engine fired on the first turn.
Then the part that actually matters: testing every button on the OUC6000022 head, lock, unlock, trunk release, and confirming the immobilizer stayed happy across three restarts. He watched the whole thing from the sidewalk, holding the broken half of his old key like a souvenir.
Back on the highway in under an hour from the time he called. A snapped key on a trip feels like the whole day is done. On these first-gen Focus PATS setups, it's one of the quicker jobs I run.
