Hollywood Beach in Oxnard has that one long strip of tight residential parking right along the water. Houses stacked close, cars parked bumper to bumper, and no shade. I pulled up to a job there on a weekday afternoon and found a woman standing next to her 2018 Ford Focus with the driver door wide open and a look on her face that said she'd been trying to solve this for a while before calling me.

Then the fob casing cracked at the pivot point where the blade folds in, and when she went to use it that morning the blade snapped off mid-turn. I extracted the broken blade fragment from the cylinder first, which told me the lock was fine, just surprised. Then I decoded the lock and got the cut spec from there. The transponder chip inside the cracked fob housing was still intact, so I was able to read it rather than run a full all-keys-lost procedure. That distinction matters on these because all-keys-lost adds time.
I put together two replacement fobs, transferred what I needed from the original, cut both blades to match, and programmed everything at the car. She had two working keys in about 45 minutes. The car started, the remote functions responded, the door handles worked on both sides. I showed her the emergency insert blade position in the new fob so she'd know it was there.
She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a number she wasn't happy with, and that was before they told her she'd need to leave the car. I was already packed up and rolling before that appointment would have even started.
