Over near Mandalay Village Marketplace in Oxnard, a guy flagged me down from the roadside. His 2017 Ford Focus key blade had snapped clean inside the ignition cylinder. Half the blade stuck in there, the other half in his hand.

Once the piece was out, I decoded each wafer position directly from the lock, which gave me the exact bitting for a new key without needing the original blade.
His Focus used the M3N-5WY8609 proximity fob, part number 164-R8092, alongside an 80-bit PATS transponder. I cut a fresh blade from the decode, seated it into a new fob housing, and programmed the transponder and remote through OBD. Ford's system enforces a ten-minute security countdown during programming. We both just stood there watching traffic on Harbor Boulevard while PATS did its thing.
No drilling. No new cylinder. His original lock works with the new key the same way it worked with the old one. He kept turning it back and forth in the ignition like he was testing it, then just nodded.
