Got a call from a guy over on Gonzales Road in Oxnard, right in that commercial stretch near the medical offices. His 2013 Focus was sitting in a parking lot with zero working keys. The only fob he ever had went through the washing machine two days prior. It half-worked for a while after drying out, then gave up completely that morning.

I pulled up around 7 PM. Connected my programmer to the OBD-II port and ran the all-keys-lost procedure through the PATS module on the BCM. The Ford AKL security access has a timed handshake, so there is a waiting period built into the protocol before it lets you write new key data. I used that downtime to cut the HU101 emergency insert blade for the new 164-R8092 fob.
Registered the M3N-5WY8609 to his car, tested all five buttons, verified push-button start, checked that the backup RFID coupling worked with the fob held against the start button. He stood there watching the whole time, arms crossed, like he was waiting for something to go wrong.
Nothing went wrong. He drove home that night instead of losing his car for half a week. The whole thing took under an hour in a parking lot.
