2009 Ford Focus
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

It is a fair question and a real problem. Scam locksmiths quote one price on the phone and name a different one at the car, then disappear behind an untraceable number. Some operate without any license at all. Here is how you check us: EZ Car Keyz has a California BSIS license number you can verify on the state website.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes, when the right part is used. The 2009 Focus remote head key is one unit: the blade starts the car and the buttons handle the doors. A replacement has to be correct for this vehicle or you end up with a key that either starts the car but has no remote function, or locks and unlocks but will not start the engine. That mismatch is common with fobs purchased online.

Q: My 2009 Focus starts fine but the remote buttons stopped working. Do I need a whole new key?

Not necessarily. On the remote head key, the transponder and the remote are two separate circuits sharing one housing. If the car starts, the transponder side is alive. Dead buttons usually point to the CR2032 battery first. Pull the battery, check the contacts for corrosion, seat a fresh CR2032, and retest. If range comes back but feels short, you might also be dealing with a slightly bent contact tab inside the housing.

Q: I have two working keys. Can I program a third one myself without a locksmith?

On the 2009 Focus, Ford included an onboard programming mode that can add a key using the ignition cylinder, but it requires two currently coded keys to enter the sequence. If you have both of yours and the third key is already cut correctly, you can do it at home without tools or a technician. Look up the procedure for this generation, follow it in order, and the vehicle security system will accept the new key.

2009 Ford Focus Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Hollywood by the Sea sits right on the water, and on a Tuesday afternoon the parking lot near the beach access felt quieter than you would expect. A guy texted me from there, standing next to his 2009 Focus. His remote head key had stopped locking the doors. The car started fine, transponder was reading, but clicking the fob did nothing.

He had already bought a replacement fob online. It was still in the packaging. He figured he would just swap it in.

I got there and looked at what he bought. The fob body looked close but was not the right unit for this year and market. That is the thing with these online listings: the photo matches, the description sounds right, and then it does not work because the part is not verified for his exact application. He had paid for something he could not use.

I pulled the correct remote head key from my stock, cut the blade to his vehicle, programmed it through the diagnostic port, and tested all three buttons plus the ignition on-site. Lock, unlock, panic, start. Everything confirmed before I packed up.

He asked what the dealer would have charged. I told him to go find out if he wanted, but he already had his keys.

Ford Focus Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Ford vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (LCO 6792), fully insured, and holds NASTF Vehicle Security Professional certification. That NASTF credential means we have been vetted to access manufacturer security data for Ford and other makes, which matters on vehicles where the immobilizer requires credentialed access to program a new key. We operate under a real business name, carry verifiable reviews, and have been doing this work for over eight years.
