1995 Hyundai Accent
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Is a locksmith cheaper than the Hyundai dealer for a car this old?

On a mid-90s Accent, almost always yes, and by a wide margin. Dealers tend to be set up for current inventory. An older vehicle without a key code on file can result in the service advisor telling you they need to order parts, bring it in on a flatbed, or that they simply can't help. A mobile locksmith with a decode tool doesn't need any of that. The work happens at your car, at your location, same day.

Q: Does the price include cutting and everything else involved?

Yes. One price covers the key blank, cutting to your vehicle, and testing at your location. On a 1995 Accent there's nothing to program, so the job is exactly what it sounds like: a properly cut metal key that works in your door and ignition. No separate fees stacked on after the fact.

Q: Can you make a key for my 1995 Accent if I have no key at all to start with?

Yes, and this is one of the more common calls I get on older vehicles. Somebody buys a used car, runs on one key, loses it, or inherits a car with nothing in it. No original key, no code card, nothing. On a car this age, I decode directly from the lock. I pick the door open and read the wafer positions, which gives me the exact cut the key needs to be.

Q: My key turns but the ignition feels loose or doesn't always catch. Do I need a new key or a new ignition cylinder?

Worth figuring out before replacing anything. On a 30-year-old Accent, both are possible. A worn key can stop engaging the cylinder tumblers cleanly even if it still turns sometimes. But if a freshly cut key has the same issue, the cylinder itself may be worn out. The test I do: try the new cut key first. If it catches consistently where the old one didn't, you're done.

1995 Hyundai Accent Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy parked on Linden Avenue in Downtown Carpinteria, one of those shaded spots near the shops. He'd been a single-key guy for a while on his 1995 Hyundai Accent, and that key finally gave up. Worn down to the point where the ignition was getting finicky, and then one afternoon it just wouldn't turn at all. He didn't want to call a tow.

I drove out to him that afternoon.

The door lock told me everything I needed. I worked through it with my decode tool, mapped every wafer position, and had the blade dimensions before he finished his coffee. Cut the key right there on Linden, test-fit it in the door, then the ignition. Turned clean on the first try.

He asked if I could make a second one while I was there. I did. Took maybe twenty minutes total from the time I pulled up.

He mentioned he'd called the dealer first and they weren't sure they could even help him on a car that old without the original key or a code on file. I didn't need either.

Hyundai Accent Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How much does a 1995 Hyundai Accent key replacement cost?▼

Call us for the current price. What I can tell you is it's a fraction of what a dealer wants, and on a car this age the dealer may not even be willing to do the job. The 1995 Accent uses a plain metal key, so there's no programming fee, no fob cost, no separate labor line for syncing electronics. You're paying for the key blank, the cut, and the mobile service to your location in Downtown Carpinteria.
