2011 Hyundai Accent
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long does the programming take once you are at my car?

On a 2011 Accent where there is already a working key, adding a spare fob is a quick job, usually fifteen to twenty minutes on site from the time I arrive to the time I walk you through testing every button. All-keys-lost takes a bit longer because the process involves reading the vehicle's security data before enrollment can begin, and some Hyundai systems from this era have a timed security delay built in before programming access opens up.

Q: Can you get here faster than the dealer can get me in?

Not even close. Dealer service appointments for key work on older Hyundais often run days out, and that assumes the dealer will even take the job on a car this age. I carry key blanks and the tooling for the 2011 Accent on every call. Same-day, come-to-you, no appointment window to wait on.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can I program it myself at home?

Not on this one. The 2011 Accent does not have an owner-accessible self-programming sequence for the remote fob the way some older domestic vehicles do. Enrolling the fob to the vehicle requires a tool that communicates through the diagnostic port and reads the vehicle's security data. If you bought a fob online, it is not a wasted purchase as long as the factory identifier on the fob matches what the car expects.

Q: My key turns fine but the car will not start, and there is a key warning on the dash. What is going on?

On the 2011 Accent, the remote fob and the ignition key are separate systems. A key-not-recognized warning at startup usually points to the transponder side, meaning the immobilizer is not seeing the chip in the key blade, not the fob. This can happen if the key is worn down, if a replacement key was never properly programmed to the car, or occasionally after a battery issue resets the module's learned data.

2011 Hyundai Accent Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Pierpont Beach is one of those spots where people park, walk to the water, and swear they will only be gone an hour. This one ended up being longer.

A guy had parked his 2011 Accent on the street near the beach access path. Somewhere between the car and the sand, the key disappeared. Not in the bag, not in the pocket, not back at the blanket. Gone. He had one key, no spare, and the fob and key were on the same ring.

He found me from his phone while still standing on the sand and dropped his GPS pin. I was already loaded for Hyundai work.

When I got there the car was sitting in the afternoon sun exactly where he left it. I decoded the door lock mechanically to establish the cut, then cut a fresh key blade to match. After that came the programming side: reading the pin data and enrolling the new key in the immobilizer so the car would actually start, not just unlock. The fob got programmed to the vehicle at the same time.

He watched most of it from about three feet away, which I prefer. No mystery, no waiting in some service lounge. The car started right there on the Pierpont street it had been sitting on all afternoon.

He mentioned the dealer estimate someone had texted him while I was working. I just pointed at the car. It was already done.

Hyundai Accent Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What if I need a key after hours or on the weekend?▼

Call me. Hyundai dealer service departments tend to run Monday through Friday with limited Saturday hours and nothing on Sunday. If you lose your key on a Saturday evening at Pierpont or discover on a Sunday morning that your only key snapped off somewhere, the dealer is not an option. I work nights and weekends because that is exactly when these situations happen.
