A guy near Surfers Point in Ventura texted me a GPS pin and a photo of his 2011 Accent sitting at a trailhead pulloff. He had hiked out, came back, and the key was gone. Somewhere on the trail, pockets, who knows. His only key.
He had already called a dealer. They told him the car would need to be towed in, the key code might not be on file since the car was over ten years old, and the whole thing could take a few days. He was standing on a dirt shoulder with one bar of signal.
I loaded up for his year and trim before I left. HYN14R blade blank, ID46 transponder chip, and a TQ8-RKE-3F01 shell with a fresh CR2032. I backed up the immobilizer data through the OBD port first, read the PIN from the Shin Chang (SC) module on the steering column, then registered the new ID46 chip. Decoded the lock wafers, cut the HYN14R blade on site, and assembled the whole key right on the hood.
He turned it over and the Accent started in that same dirt lot where it had been sitting all morning. Four buttons tested good: lock, unlock, trunk, panic. He just stood there holding the new key like he was waiting for something to go wrong.
