2005 Hyundai Accent
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Hyundai roadside said to tow my car to the dealer for a new key. Do I actually have to do that?

No. Dealers and roadside assistance default to that answer because it's the safe answer for them. But a 2005 Accent key replacement doesn't require a dealer bay or dealer equipment. The cutting and programming both happen at the vehicle. Towing adds cost and time, and if you call in and the service department is backed up, you might be waiting a day or more just to get started.

Q: What do I need to show to prove the car is mine?

A valid photo ID and your registration or title. We also verify the VIN directly from the dash plate or door jamb on the vehicle itself. Same standard a dealer would apply, done on site in a few minutes. That's it.

Q: My 2005 Accent starts fine but the remote buttons stopped working. Do I need a whole new key?

Not necessarily. On these remote head keys, the remote side and the ignition side are functionally separate. If the car starts, the transponder chip is doing its job. Dead remote buttons are almost always a battery or contact issue, not a failed chip. Pop the fob open carefully at the seam, check that the battery tab is making solid contact, and swap the battery. If the tab is bent or the contact point is corroded, that's a two-minute fix.

Q: The blade on my remote head key is starting to crack at the hinge. Can I replace just the shell without reprogramming?

The shell itself, yes, you can swap it. The transponder chip and the remote circuit board transfer to the new housing. The car won't care that the plastic changed. What you can't do is let the blade itself crack all the way through and assume it's still fine.

2005 Hyundai Accent Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was over in Waverly Heights on a Tuesday evening when I got the call. Guy had a 2005 Hyundai Accent, one key, and it had stopped working that morning. Not locked out exactly, but the remote functions were dead and he was nervous about being down to pure mechanical use with a single key he couldn't duplicate fast.

He met me in his driveway. First thing I did was open the fob on the hood of my van and look at the battery contacts before I even pulled the battery. The positive tab had a slight bend inward, probably from the last time someone popped it open. Battery wasn't making full contact.

I straightened the tab, seated a new battery correctly, and handed it back. Remote worked. That part took about four minutes.

But then we talked about the bigger picture. He had one key. If he lost it or the blade cracked at the fold point, which is common on these, he'd be starting from zero with no spare. I cut him a second key on site, programmed it at the vehicle, and verified both keys started the car and both remotes cycled the locks.

He mentioned he'd called the dealer first. They quoted him a number that made him pause, and told him to come in during business hours. He works days. That wasn't going to happen easily. I did it in his driveway after dinner for a fraction of that.

“Great service, decent price, even helped with some other issues I had which made it worth it (no one wants to fork over $ for locking their keys in the car). Will definitely call them again if need be.”

Hyundai Accent Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

I'm locked out with no spare key. Can you come to me in Waverly Heights?▼

Yes, that's the job. Call us and we come directly to wherever you are in Waverly Heights or anywhere in Thousand Oaks. We carry the key blanks and programming equipment for the 2005 Accent in the van, so there's no reason to arrange a tow or wait for a dealer appointment. One thing worth knowing: if you're locked out and the remote isn't responding, the blade on your remote head key still works the door lock cylinder manually.
