1998 Hyundai Accent
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How does mobile key replacement work for a 1998 Accent?

You call, give me the year, make, model, and your location. I confirm the right key blank for your Accent and come to you with cutting tools ready. If you have a working key, I duplicate it. If you don't, I decode the lock and cut from that. I test both the door lock and the ignition before I hand anything over. The whole job happens next to your car, usually in under thirty minutes.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you arrive?

Valid photo ID and proof of ownership - registration works fine. I pull the VIN from the dash or door jamb to confirm the vehicle is yours before I touch anything. That's it. No pre-booking a service bay, no waiting for a dealer's system to come online. The 1998 Accent is a purely mechanical job, so there's nothing to schedule around beyond me showing up.

Q: My locksmith said they can copy the key but the copies never seem to work as well as the original. Why does that happen on older Hyundais?

Really common problem on cars this age. A key gets cut, used for years, then someone takes that worn key to a hardware store and duplicates it. The copy inherits every shallow cut and rounded edge from the worn original instead of the factory specification. Do that a couple of times and the cuts drift far enough that the key starts hanging up in the lock or the ignition gets stiff.

Q: The ignition on my 1998 Accent is getting hard to turn. Is that a key problem or something inside the column?

Could be either, but start with the key. A worn blade stops lifting the tumblers cleanly, which makes the cylinder feel stiff or sticky even when the steering lock isn't engaged. Try a known-good duplicate cut to the correct depth - if the cylinder turns smoothly with that key, the old one is just worn out. If a fresh cut still binds, then you're looking at the cylinder itself, which is a separate job.

1998 Hyundai Accent Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked off Via Real in Carpinteria when the call came in. A guy had locked his only key inside his 1998 Accent and was standing next to the car on a warm afternoon, completely stuck. No spare, no fob, just a metal key sitting on the driver seat visible through the window.

I got there in about fifteen minutes. The job on a first-gen Accent like this is mechanical start to finish. I worked the door lock to get him in, then decoded the existing key cuts right off the lock cylinder so I could cut him a fresh working spare on the spot.

He watched the whole thing from about two feet away. When I handed him two new keys and he tried them both in the door and the ignition, he got quiet for a second and said he thought this was going to ruin his whole week.

It took less than half an hour. No tow, no dealer appointment, no waiting on a service bay to open up. Just a clean cut key that worked first try.

Hyundai Accent Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 1998 Hyundai Accent somewhere for key replacement?▼

Not at all. I come to wherever the car is. Driveway, parking lot, side street off Via Real in Carpinteria - doesn't matter. The 1998 Accent uses a standard metal key, so everything I need fits in the van. No dealer visit, no tow truck, no service appointment. If you're locked out or just need a spare cut, I handle it on site.
