2002 Hyundai Accent Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy at his studio apartment near the Dos Vientos neighborhood in Thousand Oaks. He had a 2002 Hyundai Accent, one working key left, and a dealer quote that made him start looking for other options.

He thought he needed a "smart key" because the car had a separate little remote for the door locks. I told him over the phone that his Accent actually uses two separate pieces: a transponder key with an ID46 chip for starting the car, and a standalone OSLOKA-series remote for keyless entry. No remote head key, no proximity system. Hyundai kept it simple on the LC Accent.

I parked at his building, used my HY14 Lishi to decode the lock and read the wafer positions. Cut a new key on site, then programmed the ID46 chip through the OBD port using the PIN from the car's immobilizer module. The whole thing took about 20 minutes. Tested the transponder handshake, turned the car over a few times, confirmed the immobilizer light on the dash dropped out after key recognition.

He had been bracing himself for the dealer process: tow the car in, wait for parts, come back later in the week. Instead he watched the whole thing happen in his parking spot and drove to work the next morning with a backup key in his wallet.
