Got a call from a guy over in the Newbury Park area of Thousand Oaks. His 2006 Accent was sitting in his apartment complex lot, and the remote had quit on him completely. He was locking and unlocking with the key blade for about two weeks before he got around to calling.
He told me the dealer wanted him to bring the car in for a new remote, and the parts counter quoted the 95430-1E000 fob plus a programming appointment. He worked odd hours and could not line that up.
I drove out during his window. Popped the back off his old PLNHM-T002 and the CR2032 was corroded on one terminal. Not just dead, but leaking a little. The board inside was still clean, so I swapped in a fresh CR2032 and wiped the contact with a pencil eraser. Nothing.
Turned out the board had a hairline crack near the battery solder pad. Common on these older Hyundai remotes when they ride in a pocket with keys and coins pressing against the case. So I set him up with a new PLNHM-T002 remote, programmed it to the receiver module, and tested all three buttons from about 40 feet across the lot.
He kept turning the old one over in his hand, looking at that crack. Sometimes a five-dollar battery fix is not the answer, but at least the diagnosis tells you why. The whole visit took less than 30 minutes, and he paid a fraction of what the dealer had quoted him.
