A strip mall shop owner near Two Rivers Park in Fillmore flagged me down about his 2004 Armada. He wanted a spare he could trust as a daily driver key, not just something he'd throw in a drawer. His one question: "Is an aftermarket key going to be as good as dealer?"

I carry aftermarket remote-head blanks tested across hundreds of Nissan NATS5 jobs. The blade is the same NSN14 profile, cut to factory spec on my mobile machine. The transponder is a 4D60 chip, same generation the BCM expects to see. His remote, the CWTWB1U751 three-button, works off the same circuit board layout and frequency. Button feel is the same, weight is the same, snap-together fit is the same. The only visible difference is no Nissan logo stamped on the back.
I programmed it through OBD, ran the key registration on the NATS, then tested the remote: lock, unlock, panic. Walked around the truck and hit every door. Then I started the engine twice, shut it off, restarted cold. No NATS security light blinking on the dash, no hesitation on crank.
He held both keys side by side and shrugged. Couldn't tell a difference in hand.
Where aftermarket goes wrong is when a locksmith sources the cheapest blanks off the bottom shelf. I test every batch before it goes in the van. His spare cost a fraction of what the dealer wanted, and it was done in his parking lot in about 40 minutes.
