A guy with a 2018 Armada reached out to me while he was parked near the marina at Channel Islands Harbor. He'd already been to a dealer earlier that week. His fob had stopped unlocking the doors reliably, the start button would throw a key-not-detected warning every few tries, and touch unlock on the driver's handle was completely gone. Then I tested every button, walked all four doors checking touch sensors, and held the fob against the start button to confirm the passive start fallback was still working. The fob itself was fine. The driver handle touch sensor wasn't reading consistently, but the key was communicating with the vehicle just like it should.
The issue wasn't the fob at all. The handle was the problem.
He had been ready to pay for a whole new key, programming, the works. What he actually needed was a diagnosis.
