2016 Nissan Armada
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Is a mobile locksmith actually cheaper than the Nissan dealer for an Intelligent Key?

On Nissans, almost always yes, and the gap on a full-size SUV tends to be wider than on smaller models. Dealers charge for the fob, the blade insert, and programming as separate line items, and programming on Nissan's Intelligent Key system typically gets billed as a full labor hour even when the actual procedure takes fifteen minutes.

Q: Does your price include cutting and programming, or are those add-ons?

One price, everything included. The fob, the emergency insert blade cut to your vehicle, programming, and a full button and proximity test before I leave. No separate line items. Dealers on Nissan Intelligent Key jobs routinely split it out: parts, blade cut, and a programming labor charge billed independently. With us it's one number, quoted up front, done at your location.

Q: My 2016 Armada shows a key warning on the dash even though I'm holding the fob. What's going on?

This comes up a lot on these. Nine times out of ten it's the fob battery. The 2016 Armada Intelligent Key takes a CR2025 cell. When that battery gets weak, the system can still detect the fob just barely at close range but loses it the moment there's any interference, like a pocket, a bag, or just a bad angle to the antenna.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2016 Armada. Can I program it myself?

No. The 2016 Armada Intelligent Key doesn't have a DIY button sequence or ignition-turn relearn. Adding a new fob to this system requires professional diagnostic equipment connected to the OBD port to communicate with the vehicle's security system directly. The online fob you bought is just a blank shell until it's registered. Bring it when you call and I can program it along with your existing keys in the same session, which saves you the cost of the fob itself.

2016 Nissan Armada Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A pharmacy tech in Downtown Oxnard called me on a Tuesday morning. She was standing in a carport, holding her 2016 Armada fob in two pieces. The housing had split at the seam, and when she pulled it from her pocket the key blade snapped clean. The car wouldn't detect anything. She had one key. She'd always meant to get a spare.

I got there and the first thing I did was look at the broken fob before assuming the worst. The housing was gone but the transponder chip inside was intact. That mattered. It meant I could read the existing data off that chip rather than starting from scratch with an all-keys-lost procedure, which takes longer and costs more.

I read the chip, decoded her door lock cylinder for the blade cut, and built two new fobs from scratch. She watched me open the old housing right there on the hood of her car, which I think helped. It's one thing to say the chip is fine. It's another to put it in front of someone so they can see it themselves.

Both fobs tested out clean: lock, unlock, proximity start, all four buttons working. Forty minutes, start to finish. She went from zero functioning keys to two.

She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a number that made her pause long enough to call me instead. Turned out to be a good pause.

Nissan Armada Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How much does a 2016 Nissan Armada key replacement cost?▼

Call us for current pricing. What we can tell you is it covers everything in one number: the fob, cutting the emergency insert blade, programming, and mobile service to your location in Downtown Oxnard or anywhere nearby. Nissan dealers tend to break it into three or four separate line items. The fob itself, the blade cut, and programming billed as a labor hour each show up as their own charge on the invoice.
