1997 Nissan Maxima
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How does mobile key replacement work for a 1997 Maxima?

You call, give me the year, make, model, and your location. I verify the correct key blank for your Maxima and head out. On site, I either decode the cut from your lock cylinder or door lock, or reference the key code tied to your VIN if that route is faster. I cut the key on the truck, test it in the door and ignition, and hand it to you.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you arrive?

Just the vehicle, a valid photo ID, and proof of ownership like your registration or title. I pull the VIN from the dashboard or door jamb to confirm the key specs before I cut anything. That's the whole list. No dealer codes, no module access, no retrieval steps. The 1997 Maxima keeps it simple on that front.

Q: I have a working key but want a spare cut. Can you do that on the spot?

Yes, and it's the fastest version of this job. If you have a working key in hand, I duplicate it directly. No decoding the lock, no VIN lookup needed. A few minutes on the cutting machine and you're done. Having a spare for a vehicle this age is worth doing sooner rather than later, since the original key has years of wear on it and the cuts can get shallow over time.

Q: My 1997 Maxima key turns but the ignition feels stiff or the key is hard to pull out. Is that a key problem or an ignition problem?

Could be either, and they tend to go together on vehicles this age. A worn key cuts shallow over time and starts putting uneven pressure on the ignition wafers, which makes the cylinder feel stiff or sticky. Sometimes the cylinder itself is just worn independent of the key. First step is to try a freshly cut replacement key made from the original code rather than copied from a worn original.

1997 Nissan Maxima Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from someone parked near the Upper East side of Santa Barbara, one of those quiet residential streets off Micheltorena. He had locked his only key inside the 1997 Maxima while unloading groceries. No spare anywhere.

He had already called the dealer. They told him to get the car towed in. He asked if there was another way. They said no.

I was there in about twenty minutes. Decoded the cut right off the door lock, pulled the correct key blank, cut it on the truck. Turned the lock, opened the door, turned the ignition. Done.

He stood there for a second looking at the key like he was expecting more steps. There weren't any. No scan tool, no programming sequence, no waiting. Just a properly cut metal key and a working car.

The dealer route would have meant a tow truck, a service appointment, and probably half a day gone. He saved a good chunk and never had to leave the neighborhood.

Nissan Maxima Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 1997 Nissan Maxima somewhere for key replacement?▼

Not at all. I come to you. Driveway, parking lot, office, wherever the car is sitting in Santa Barbara or the Upper East area. The 1997 Maxima uses a mechanical key, so there's no programming equipment or dealer system involved. Everything I need fits in the truck. You don't move the car, you don't call a tow, you just stay put.
